Ariel Young Mamas: A Book Series Featuring Young Moms and Their Adventures

The new live-action film is a remake of the Disney animated classic The Little Mermaid from 1989. The story follows a young mermaid, Ariel, who makes a deal with an evil sea witch to grow legs and live on land in order to fall in love with a prince, all at the cost of her voice.

She is a graduate of Mills College and the University of California at Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.[when?][citation needed] While attending Mills College in the 1990s, Gore was a young, single mom raising her daughter.[9]

"There's still a mess of people out there who didn't plan motherhood as meticulously," she says. "We expect young women to have an education, be political and be empowered, but when you get pregnant, that's it for you. All of a sudden it's 'You go back to the ironing board, my dear.' "

"I don't know I'd recommend people have kids that young as a matter of course," she says. "But it's totally doable. I would totally do it again. I've been on welfare -- I was living on $10,000 in one year -- and I think if you have kids you're always going to be broke no matter what. No matter how much money you get, you're going to spend it all."

Athena was the late wife of King Triton, and the late mother of Ariel, Andrina, Arista, Aquata, Adella, Alana, and Attina. She was the Queen of Atlantica, and beloved by her family and subjects. She was noted for her singing talent and her love of music. She and Triton had been best friends since their childhood. Unfortunately, she died as a result of a run-in with a big pirate ship when Ariel was very young, fueling Triton's hatred of humans and music as a result. A statue of her dancing with him is present in his courtyard, where he cried over her death every day.

Athena appears in the film's flashbacks to when her daughters were very young. She and Triton are shown to be very much in love. They are shown to share a special song (known as "Endless Sky"). They share the song with their daughters and use it as a lullaby. One day, they are relaxing in a cove with the princesses and some other merpeople. They are celebrating their anniversary, and so Triton gives Athena a special music box that plays their song. However, pirates soon approach the cove and attack the merpeople. Most of the mermaids and mermen escape safely. Triton carries Ariel, Arista, Aquata, and Adella to safety while Andrina and Alana dive into the water to swim to safety, but Attina, the oldest princess, gets her tail stuck between two rocks. Athena is able to free her in time, but she is crushed to death by the ship while trying to save the music box, due to the pirates apparently losing control of their ship and unable to stop it from crushing Athena and running aground the rocks, breaking the keel and sinking it.

Rumpus: Ah, that gets to what I was probably asking with that previous question: when is very young motherhood a boon? What are the various factors that can stymie our creative growth and survival?

The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey opens up about why she was shocked when she was cast as Ariel. Following Disney's other live-action adaptations like The Lion King and Mulan, the Mouse House is turning its sights on another animated classic. Set to premiere in May 2023, The Little Mermaid will offer a live-action spin on the beloved 1989 film. Bailey stars as Ariel, the young mermaid who dreams of life up on land among the humans. The star-studded cast also includes Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Daveed Diggs, Jonah Hauer-King, and Melissa McCarthy, who plays evil sea witch Ursula.

Ren McCormack has recently traded in the big city for small-town life after his father walked out on him and his mother, Ethel. He's trying his best to put his past behind him, but his new home has problems of its own. Ren tries to encourage Bomont to loosen its strict ban on dancing and live a little. Cast a young man who can do it all - act, sing, and of course, dance. This young performer should possess the magnetism to inspire a whole community to cut loose.

Ethel McCormack has recently arrived to Bomont with her son, Ren, stepping away from a failed marriage and trying to make a fresh start. She's got a sense of humor about her situation and a great need to make sure her son is adjusting. Find a young woman with a great singing voice who can convey a mature presence.

Reverend Shaw Moore is the most influential figure in Bomont. His conservative, religious views became strident after his son Bobby passed away in the Potawney Bridge accident, after driving home from a big dance - in fact, he's outlawed dancing altogether. This is a great role for a young man who reads as a bit older onstage and an actor who can command the stage with his acting and singing.

Chuck Cranston is Ariel's boyfriend and a recent high school dropout. He doesn't have much ambition besides making sure he has control over Ariel. Cast a young man with the acting chops to appear intimidating and physically overbearing.

Ariel Moore is a young lady caught between her father Reverend Shaw Moore's conservative beliefs and her own aspirations to experience life and enjoy it for herself. Ren ignites an excitement in her, and she learns quickly that she has to stand up to her father to get what she wants. Ariel is a role for a charismatic performer who can act, sing and dance.

Vi Moore is married to Reverend Shaw Moore, and though she usually agrees with her husband's point of view, she's not afraid to disagree when the tensions rise and tempers flare in the house. Cast a young woman who possesses a more mature energy and is a proficient vocalist.

Lulu has recently invited her sister Ethel to stay with her and her husband, Wes, in the small town of Bomont. As Ren struggles to fit in with the rest of the teenagers, Lulu does her best to remain a patient and supportive host. Find a young woman who is a talented actor and a suitable fit with Wes.

Wes is Lulu's husband and a small-town kind of a guy. He helps Ren find a job, but, unfortunately, Ren's employment doesn't last long. Wes grows impatient but continues to support his family in this tough, transitional period. Cast a young man who will make a good pairing with Lulu.

Rusty is Ariel's best friend who talks a mile a minute and has a crush on the soft-spoken Willard. She's unafraid to say what she wants, if only Willard would pick up on the clues. Cast a spunky young female who can do it all and can encourage Willard to finally ask her out.

Urleen & Wendy Jo are part of Ariel's group of girlfriends who stick together no matter what. While Urleen may be a little more blunt, Wendy Jo is definitely a little more eccentric. Cast a pair of young ladies who are both talented and complements to Ariel and Rusty.

Willard Hewitt is a country boy of few words and even fewer dance steps. At first, he may appear physically aggressive, but really, he's just a soft-spoken guy. He quickly becomes friends with Ren, and the unlikely pair lead the charge to bring dancing back to the town. Though at the top of the show he has two left feet, he commits to learning dance steps at the Bar-B-Que and dazzles the entire club. This role is great for a young man who is a skilled actor, dancer and singer.

Principal Clark is the boss at Bomont's high school and an adamant enforcer of the town's strict guidelines. Cast a young woman who can emulate an older presence and is unafraid to take command of the stage.

Coach Dunbar is a teacher at the high school who strongly supports the town's anti-dancing laws. When Ren arrives, Coach Dunbar does not make it easy for him, and exacerbates Ren's situation by pitting him against other students. This is a great cameo role for a young man who has an authoritative energy.

Lyle & Travis are two members of the wrestling team who don't like Ren, the new kid in school. This pair of cameo parts is a good fit for two young men who can make strong character choices.

Eleanor Dunbar is a prominent member of the town council and Coach Dunbar's wife. She, along with other council members, must decide on whether they should uphold its existing moral laws. This is a suitable cameo role for a young woman who can make big acting choices.

Cowgirl Bonnie leads a band that frequents the Bar-B-Que. She's the club's favorite entertainer, so be sure to cast a young woman with a great singing voice and a lot of stage presence.

Cowboy Bob is a usual patron at the Bar-B-Que and takes a liking to Rusty when the high school teens visit the dance hall for the first time. This featured role is perfect for a young man with strong dancing abilities.

Bickle, Jeter & Garvin are teenage boys ready to help Ren and Willard take on the town's laws. Find three young men who are good singers, actors and dancers, and who work well together as a team.

Queen Athena was the wife of King Triton, and the mother of Ariel and her six older sisters. She was the Queen of Atlantica, and beloved by her family and subjects. She was noted for her singing talent and her love of music. She and Triton had been the best of friends ever since their childhood. Unfortunately, she passed away as a result of a run-in with a big pirate ship when Ariel was very young, fuelling her husband's hatred of humans and leaving him widowed as a result. A statue of her dancing with Triton is present in his courtyard, where he was going and crying everyday after her death until the music was restored to Atlantica.

Of all her daughters, her youngest, Ariel, resembles her the most. This is most obvious in the original release of The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, at least 32 years following the film's events, when Ariel has matured and become a mother herself. It is possible that the animators of Athena based her appearance on the mature version of Ariel. 2ff7e9595c
